I just learnt from Unworthy Sinner about Blog Day.

What is 310g? Anything to do with 831 blog day?! After few seconds than i realised, ohhh... 310g is Blog!!

 



BlogDay was created with the belief that bloggers should have one day dedicated to getting to know other bloggers from other countries and areas of interest. On that day Bloggers will recommend other blogs to their blog visitors.

Second KPI Minister Sworn In

2 KPI Ministers & 2 Finance Ministers

9 April 2009, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Performance Management & National Unity) Dr Koh Tsu Koon sworn in as senator, enable him for the ministerial post.

1 September 2009, Idris Jala sworn in as a senator, paving the way for his appointment as a minister without portfolio in the Prime Minister's Department.

Second Finance Minister also reporting to Finance Minister. So there is nothing wrong for the appointment from PM. 

Rocky Bru wrote on his posting “Idris Jala, a Minister reporting to a Minister.”

What people don't understand is why the Government needs another Minister to look at this thing called KPI. And why is this Minister answerable to another Minister, whose performance thus far has been far from impressive.

"The public is confused here," one of my regular correspondents from abroad pointed out. Najib needs to appoint more professionals to his Cabinet to help him realise the nation's Vision, but as the correspondence has it, "The execution of this strategy could have been better."

It is interesting to note that any initiatives by the Government (regardless whether it is Barisan or maybe Pakatan in future who knows?) will be criticized by any Malaysians.

One thing for sure Malaysians are darn good at throwing criticism on others without based on any hard evidences or facts.

Do you know the role of the KPI Minister involves influencing, steering and pushing the whole Government machinery (1.4 million civil servants) & the responsible Ministers to achieve the KPI Targets set by our Prime Minister?

Do you think any Tom Dick and Harry can do such a job? Some people here in the blog mentioned that "give me 2 weeks" and i can draft a KPI. Sure.

Everbody can draft a KPI. But do you know what it takes to design a proper KPI that can impact the Rakyat and also to deliver the vision of 1Malaysia? Talk, talk, talk - thats what we know best. Rakyat will keep on talking/commenting/criticsing no matter what the Government does.

It is just sad this polarity continues to exist in our country.

"Why we need 2 KPI Ministers" - Guys, don't you read the newspaper articles CLEARLY?

It was stated that Idris will be appointed as a CEO of PEMANDU (reports to KTK) and at the same time he is a Minister without porfolio.

It means, Idris is doing 2 JOBS at the same time.

It is NOT A MINISTER REPORTING TO A MINISTER. Idris will play a MINISTER ROLE on other matters assigned to him by the PM. But on PEMANDU, he will be the CEO, ie they guy who will implement. As you know KTK is the guy who will set the policy and governance, whereelse you need a strong driver to really execute the NKRAs. This is when you need people like Idris who has transformation / turnaround experience.

Hope it clarifies. Next time if you are not sure, ask or at least seek more in depth knowledge. Don't act smart and simply hantam like as if you know the world!

Kartika Wants To Be Canes In Public

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — A Muslim woman who has been sentenced to six strokes of the rotan for drinking beer has asked for the punishment to be carried out in public, not in a prison in Selangor.

Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno, who is set to be caned next week, said she should be punished in public if the Islamic court had intended for it to be a lesson to all Muslims.

When i heard the news from RTM & 8TV, i was like WTF?!?!  Another flip flop... swine flu -> H1N1 -> swine flu.. Selsema babi -> babi.. babi

The World Health Organisation has long declared it a pandemic. Most countries in South East Asia and East Asia have put in place stringent measures to contain the spread of the disease.

Thermal scans at entry points...temperature checks at schools...voluntary home quarantines and so on.

But in Malaysia our attitude seems to be..."Eh leh! What's the problem? Won't affect us too much la." And the perenial favorite, "How many mati (die)? 2 ah? Naer mine la." And we continue on our happy ways.

And our honourable (and I use this word rather loosely) ministers instead treat us to a debate on what to call the damned bug that causes the damned disease!!!

The world calls it Influenza A (H1N1) And the Malaysian Minister of Health says that we should follow suit.

And then...I suppose also because Malaysian politics recently has become a tad boring for the YB's...our Minister of Information jumps in and says, Cannot! That would confuse people. We call it Swine Flu! The original name ma.



Then he said that his reason was so that people (I suppose he means only Malaysians) would realise the danger of the disease and to get the message across to them more accurately.

Firstly, I am quite confused already at the first part of that statement. Realise the danger? If the disease kicks your stupid ass and you die I guess that's pretty damn dangerous isn't it? Even if you call the bug Cik Siti.

Secondly, what's the second part of that statement trying to say? Get the message across more accurately by calling it Swine Flu. What is the YB trying to say?

That only pork-eaters will die ah? Or worse, it's all the pork-eaters fault ah? That kind of reasoning is more dangerous than any flu virus will ever be.

Our YB then proceeded to (he is in charge of RTM radio and television ma) inform us that Swine Flu or in Bahasa Malaysia, Sel-se-ma Babi, is easier for radio and TV announcers to say compared to In-flu-en-za A (H1N1).



Proves what I have always suspected. RTM radio and TV announcers have problems pronouncing words with more than 3 syllables.

I've always thought our minister of information an intelligent man. But he's increasingly proving that he is just .............

Changing Voting Trends Among Non-Malays

KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 (Bernama) -- The recently concluded three by-elections have shown a noticeable change in the voting trends of the Malays and non-Malays towards Barisan Nasional (BN) and the opposition.

Although BN managed to retain the Batang Ai state seat and the opposition parties, PKR and PAS, the Bukit Selambau state seat and Bukit Gantang parliamentary seat respectively, the marked change in the voting trends is something new compared to the March 8 general election last year.

An analysis of the results shows some interesting facts, one of which is that non-Malay support towards BN in the two "Bukits" has decreased dramatically with the opposition gaining their votes.

BN managed to have increased support from Malay voters in Bukit Gantang, but the increase could not make up for the non-Malay votes for PAS.

My friend told me he is one of the powerful minister, one of the thirty three minister in cabinet.

 

He is also a influential politician within UMNO... is it true??!!
I really got no idea-lah!!

 

 

BUT I still have some doubt on the authenticity of the photo.

 

Perhaps, the person concern should seek help from someone, set up an independent panel to investigate into the authenticity of the photo post by someone on the net quite sometimes. 

 

A friend of mine told me these are not new, during 1998 Reformasi time, the photos were already there. Nothing much to talk about.

Chia Kwang Chye, Zam & Bloggers 

Emhhh, quite some time i didn't write in English, i think this is a good topic for me to blog about.

Deputy Information Minister Datuk Seri Chia Kwang Chye said that citizen journalism through blogs presented an opportunity rather than a threat.

Blogs provide a valuable feedback mechanism for the Government. Such feedback provides useful checks and balances and helps the Government to improve its delivery services

Well done Mr. Chia. A least you got some guts and courages to speak the truth and speak your mind.

I do hope your boss Zam shares the same thought, BUT very unlikely he would do so!



I strongly urge you, Mr Chia:

DON't just hear without really listening to the people.

Be willing to act according to their wishes, only then will the feedback via the internet be useful.

DON'T forgot what Zam labelled  bloggers as "goblok".

DON'T trying to fish for votes with the general elections being just around the corner.

DON'T become others NATO（No Action Talk Only） ministers.

Please be serious with your statement with regards to bloggers.

Consistency is not just short period of time. It has to be sincere too!

First timer

My first time as moderator

 

On the 11 August, I was requested by Lee Khai Loon, to chair a plenary discussion entitled "The Role of Media in Building a Harmonious Society", a media workshop organized by SIRD (Social Information Research Development). 

Ohhh... I'm really nervous to be moderator for this session, but somehow everyone got his/her first time, me too. So I took up the job.

 

I laughed at myself after the session ended, just like a virgin who go on his first time (處男下海), kelam kabut-lah.

It is so difficult for the first timer to meet their expectation, me too.

 

By using my broken English to chair plenary discussion which the presentation were by experienced resource person with the wide knowledge of media study and government news agency.

 

Two distinguish speaker were Dr Mustafa K.Anuar (right) and Yong Soo Heong (left).

 Dr Mustafa is Associate Prof at School of Communications, USM, Joint Coordinator of Charter2000-Aliran, media advocator).

Yong Soo Heong is Editor-in-Chief of BERNAMA, he sets the record as the first non-Melay EIC since the National News Agency was incorporated 40 years ago.

Yong, who home town from Penang, joined Bernama as a cadet reporter in August 1974. 

He holds a diploma in journalist from the Virginia Journalist Centre in the United States, was the Economic News Desk editor from 2000 before his promotion to Economic Service executive editor on August 1, 2004.  

 

It is ok, I knew my presentation not that presentable... doesn't matter, practice make perfect. I'll try if given the chance next time.

I'm surprised! Why all 37 charges against controversial Port Klang assemblyman Datuk Zakaria Md Deros and his business partners instituted by the Companies Commission Malaysia (CCM) have been dropped.

 

The King must be very very powerful and untouchable.

CCM’s senior prosecutor Azmil Haron told Klang magistrate Fadzilatul Isma Ahmad Refngah that he had received instructions from the Deputy Public Prosecutor to drop the charges.The New Straits Times reported this was done following the payment of the compound for the offences to CCM on July 31.

 

No man is above law,

no man is below it.

Warfare of Media & Information

We are indeed in media and information warfare.

Right now blogging has become a subject of academic discussion. All of a sudden bloggers and blogging  have become the focus of intensive attack from certain political parties and politicians.

On 16-17^th August 2007, Center for Media and Information Warfare (CMIWS), University Technology MARA (UiTM) organized an International Conference entitled “Media and Information Warfare: A Global Challenge in the 21^st Century”.

The conference took place at Hotel Palace of the Golden Houses, a 6-star hotel.

While promoting ideas, thought and information exchange among academics, non- academics experts, researchers and bloggers who are involved directly and indirectly in these field, participants were having discussion in the nice hotel, but outside war had been declared on bloggers.

 

Prior to this international conference, on the 24 July, CMIWS organized a seminar titled “Media and Technology – Bloggers Issues and Challenges in the 21^st Century”.

It was held at 5 star Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam.Kadir Jasin, Steven Gan, Zaharin Yassin (Sang Kelembai) and various academics were invited to share their view and thought.Information is the life blood of the 21^st century.

With the advent of the new media such as the internet, the role of the media has taken a new form in which journalists are no longer the sole providers of information, nor either can they any longer be the most important channels for public information and persuasion. 

Happy 50th Merdeka

Greetings from Minister of Tourism Malaysia

I was delighted when received greeting card from Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, on the occasion of 50^th anniversary Malaysia. few days ago.  

But are we 50^th  Malaysia? Or 44^th Malaysia (Federation of Malaysia was formed in 1963 )?

 

According to the card, which send  to Subang Jaya old office address, signed by Minister of Tourism Malaysia wish all Happy 50^th Anniversary Malaysia (31 August 1957 - 31 August 2007).    

I quote what Tengku Adnan said:

'Together we celebrate our 50 Glorious years,

The time is now, The Place to Malaysia.

Lets welcome our special guests, In style and cheers,

A lasting memory , forever truly Aisa.'

 

On August 2nd, 2007, the Centre for Public Policy Studies (CPPS) of the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (Asli) released The Merdeka Statement (link downloads a PDF copy, opens in a new window), a non-governmental initiative towards a better and stronger Malaysia.

Reactions to the document have been mixed, with opposition coming from, among others, Muslim NGOs, claiming that it is an attempt at "renegotiating the social contract and validating apostasy" (as reported by Malaysiakini). Opposition also cam from Lord ZAM (via The Malaysian), stating, among other things that the Merdeka Statement was "it is a clever attempt to disunite the people in the country" (go figure... but then again, this is ZAM we're talking about).

The Merdeka Statement is merely a blue-print of how we should trudge forward.

After a day, my expert friend came back to me with some answers. I would like to share with fellow bloggers.

My friend said: the comments looks like a group effort using a shared office, on Wi Fi environment.

The IP address belongs to TM Net, probably a Streamyx wireless connection.


The throughput through which the writer sent the comments to my blog suggest it's a very crowded network with very slow speed.


The latency is bad.... which denote:
1 ) Messy routing, with proxies, to cover their digital trails

2 ) Too many people sharing too little bandwidth
My friend tend to believe No. 2This could be the cybertroopers are just putting in the furnitures. More money and more equipment will come in.He suggest me moderate the comments at mine own pace, but be vigilant as they have selected mine as a target. Ohh..... a good news and bad news as well, fix feeling.Their tactics would be:1 ) "Conventional engagement": to gain mine trust2 ) "War of Attrition": to wear me out and plant some subversive comments when I'm less vigilant.

3) "The Final Assault"on me: including hacking and cracking and Denial of Service (DoS) as mine is a free hosting service

I don't think they will launch (3), may be is a combination of (1) and (2).

Cyber troopers Is Ready

Huh, today morning when i login my blog, i was surprised to see 5 long comments. I suppose these comments were from the same team of people.

 

Wah-lao-ehh, 5 peoples using same IP, which is 6X.5X.18X.18X and those comments up to 4 pages! After checking the details I only allowed aston's comments to be posted. 

 

Their posting date for the comments were at the same day August 20, and the posting time were 8.50pm, 8.53pm, 8.57pm, 9.00pm and 9.06pm. Very suspicious!!

 

 

They write excellent English, but the way of writing are pushing things over the limit. Slander other races with no reason, using irrelevant words.

 

Are they so call cyber troopers created by UMNO? I don't know, but i had seek help from a good friend of mine, he is an expert in this field and will help me to identified those email address and the same IP for the 5 comments.

 

Umno Youth chief Hishammuddin Hussein got this to said “Umno Youth warns that freedom has its limits and we will not tolerate those who touch on the issue of national stability, harmony, cultural values and the personality of national leaders.”

Am I under their close watch? Who am I so powerful to influence others?

Come on-lah I'm just a journalist!

Narrative Reporting

Narrative reporting is something like telling stories

On 11 August, Janet Steele, an associate professor of journalism at the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University, was invited by SIRD to conduct a workshop on "The Role of Media in eligious & Racial harmonious Building".

She used to said :'It is more applicable to the newspapers in the age of competition with television journalism to adopt narrative form of journalism.'

This American academic cited, narrative journalism is not going to replace the existing trends and techniques of conventional journalism altogether.

I'm confused with conventional or hard news writing with this narrative writing?

Narrative journalism got nothing too deals with news? It's a fiction way of writing?

Some said new journalism is rather narrative in form and it's not literary journalism; narrative reporting is not a marriage between fiction and journalism, it's just a form of journalism.

A distinctive aspect of new journalism is that it broke away from obsession with objectivity in conventional journalism, placing emphasis on subjectivity in reporting and other genres of journalism

Narrative journalism has moved out of the feature section to news section; writing news by telling stories.

She told participants, FOUR distinctive features of narrative journalism:
1.scene by scene description
2.extensive use of dialogues
3.multiple points of views
4.credible attention to details in reporting

I supposed though new journalism seems to be fictional, it's actually an in-depth reporting for a greater truth.

But are Malaysian journalist ready for it, especially chinese media journalist?

Traditional approach of journalism with all its superficiality and constraints cannot address all the grave problems.

The new journalism was pioneered by renowned US journalists like Tom Wolfe and Jimmy Breslin in 1960s in the USA

What are we?

So what are we? We are everything… Confused?!

We are Islamic state (Ex-PM Tun Mathathir ’s remarks), not Secular  state  (DPM Najib’s statements), not Islamic state or Theocratic State (PM Abdullah’s statements).
MCA Sec-gen Ong Ka Chuan said we are  Secular state , Gerakan said we are not Islamic state or Theocratic State , we are so sepcial…….

Politician made us confused. 
I, and many malaysian are so confused by the PM and DPM’s conflicting statements.
Who should i followed? PM? DPM? MCA? Gerakan?
 Where are MIC and others BN component parties?
